The quality hasn't changed, but the amenities have. I don't think Widewaters had indoor dining when it first re-opened a few years ago, there's a 50's style indoor section with half a dozen booths. Much cleaner than Reid's with a section for condiments so you can prepare your food out of the way of ordering patrons.
They also tidied up the nature trail quite a bit. It's not a hike by any stretch of the imagination, but they've added a few little paths and a lot of birdhouses. We often see deer, and if you're quiet you might catch a good view of a muskrat before they scurry away.
There's still some swings and slides and playhouses. Plenty of benches outside.
The food itself is comparable to a Teds or an Anderson's in price, but it's also much higher quality than Reid's. The burgers are excellent, and the thin cut curly fries are tasty and unique to this establishment.
They have a variety of desserts including Perry's ice cream (any flavor of which you can have as a milk shake), soft serve, slushies, slushies with soft serve, root beer floats, and a variety of specialty sundaes.
The location across from the canal is great. -

Delightful place right on the canal. Jukebox in the corner. Walk up window or dine in. The fast food is what you'd expect, and more. Ice cream and fast food menu items, they boast fresh fish and fresh never frozen beef for their own hamburgers, their clam strips are done just right. All of their seafood comes from Montondo's which is one of my favorite seafood suppliers. The young lady behind the counter, Taylor, was pleasant and patient. They only had decaf coffee available, which they serve in Styrofoam, but everything was reasonably priced and the experience was satisfying. Being right on the canal, this is a summer hangout at its best, but still had a nice crowd on this beautiful fall day.

Widewaters is located cross the street from the Nelson Goehle public marina located on the Erie Canal. After enjoying a fun kayak on the Erie Canal, we enjoyed live music and ice cream at Widewaters.
Widewaters is a great place to spend the day with the family. They don't just offer a good selection of food. they have a summer concert series every Sunday, they offer lawn games, playground for the kids and even had a watering station for the dogs.
Plus they have a nice and clean in door 50 styles eating area with a juke box and a modern and clean Bathroom facilities is a plus.
Across the street at the Marina there is a sand beach area, the marina and a kayak renting hut.( opening soon). -

I was so very sad to see flooding caused this location to close down years ago, and yet so very excited to see someone take on the challenge of recovering it from its watery grave. Boy am I glad they did! Not only is the food delicious, with a solid menu of choices, the staff have always been very friendly and are often up to a challenge. Can't decide what to order? Just ask them to take over and you will not be met with some time otherwise received odd looks or a lot of questions. Instead, you get deliciousness.
Check out all the outdoor adventure being added to the fantastic location, now including all the old staple yet classic playground equipment along side the new large sizes board games, added seating and even a larger than life Adirondack chair!
